Your plants are what makes your garden unique.
The life and soul of any outdoor space has to be the plants, they are an integral element to any hard landscaping project. And if your plant knowledge doesn’t quite rival Monty or Alan that’s ok because Helyers has you covered…
So, let us bring your outdoor space to life with a beautiful and thoughtful planting plan…
How it works:
So, the first step is always to measure up the site and assess the grounds, the drainage, the location, the general environment and the soil conditions.
The next step is for us to draw it up on Landworks CAD.
We then make time to discuss our findings and the options with you, guiding with our experience and expertise but of course taking into consideration the wants and needs of you the customer and your expectations from your garden and the plants. We also take this time to run through a questionnaire with these types of questions:
Are you an experienced gardener?
How much time do you have to dedicate to the plants and the garden in general?
Is this a low maintenance project?
What colours are you looking for?
It there a specific styling of planting you like?
Are there specific plants that you like and would like to see in your garden?
Is it about plants or flowers or both?
Do you want height from trees? And or shade?
With all of this in mind, we also have to consider additional elements, the aspects of the site are very important, such as the size of the site, the soil conditions, which way your home faces, whether it is in sun or shade and any prevailing winds. All this information helps in the final choice of the plants which of course must suit the site. Sometimes screening is important particularly in urban gardens which are often fenced all round the neighbouring houses overlooking the site. The choice of evergreen plants within the planting scheme is vital to provide year-round structure and interest. Depending on the size of the site, we design layers of planting from trees, shrubs, herbaceous and ground cover plants which must again suit the conditions
Of course, personal tastes are constantly taken into consideration during this process. Some clients love for example grasses and movement within the garden with a ‘looser’ look to the planting. Whilst others prefer a more controlled and traditional look with less overflowing or trailing plants. And of course, the amount of time you have to dedicate to maintaining the new planting is vital to our proposed planting plan. For some there is real pleasure in tending to their plants, and mowing the lawn and trimming topiary or hedges and they have lots of time available whilst other have such busy work and family schedules that it’s about achieving a beautiful garden with the least time spent on maintenance as possible – remember we are here to listen and work with you…
The next step is to provide you with pictures of the suggested plants in the new scheme together with a detailed planting plan which shows exactly where all the specific plants are intended to go. Should you be unsure of wish to change anything then we can adjust the plan accordingly.
Once the scheme is agreed, a spread sheet of the plants is generated including numbers, pot sizes and costs and simply awaits the go ahead from you…
Upon sign off, the plants are ordered and a date for planting is given (of course taking in consideration the time of year and season).
