We offer a wide range of driveway surfaces to suit every property style, budget, and planning requirement:
- Block paving – The most popular choice in Hampshire. Durable, attractive, and available in a wide range of colours and patterns including herringbone, basket weave, and stretcher bond.
- Resin bound gravel – A smooth, permeable surface that meets SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage) regulations without planning permission. Low maintenance and available in many aggregate colours.
- Tarmac (asphalt) – A cost-effective, long-lasting option ideal for larger driveways. Can be finished with a decorative border of block paving or granite sets.
- Indian sandstone – Brings a natural, premium look to your driveway. Works well on smaller driveways and in front of period properties.
- Porcelain – Ultra-modern and virtually maintenance-free, porcelain driveways make a striking first impression.
- Gravel – Affordable and quick to install. A good choice for rural or cottage-style properties, with the added benefit of acting as a natural intruder deterrent.
In many cases, you do not need planning permission for a new driveway — but there are important conditions.
If your new driveway uses a permeable surface (such as resin bound gravel, block paving with permeable jointing, or gravel), rainwater drains naturally into the ground, and planning permission is generally not required for properties in England.
However, if you install an impermeable surface (such as solid tarmac or standard concrete) and it covers more than 5m², you will need planning permission unless water drains to a lawn or border rather than the highway.
Our team is familiar with Hampshire local authority requirements and will advise you on which surface options are compliant for your specific property. We handle all aspects of the project so you don’t need to worry about the technicalities.
Every Helyers driveway project is carried out to the highest standards, with a clear process from first contact to final handover:
- Free site visit and quote – We assess your existing driveway, drainage, access, and surface condition and provide a detailed, no-obligation quote.
- Design and material selection – We help you choose the right surface, colour, and edging to complement your property.
- Groundworks and sub-base – A properly engineered sub-base is the foundation of a long-lasting driveway. We excavate to the correct depth and lay a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base before any surfacing begins.
- Surfacing and edging – The chosen surface is laid with precision, including decorative edging, drainage channels, and any kerbing required.
- Finishing and clean-up – We leave your property clean and tidy, with all waste materials removed.
Most residential driveway projects are completed within 2 to 5 days.
